Viewers understand and expect reporters to be human. But reporters should also be aware, that if they get too caught up in their own adventures, they risk becoming reality show stars, and losing the credibility that so vital when they go back to their other job: journalism.

Was I too harsh on CNN two weeks ago? I was thinking about that as read over President Obama’s remarks at Walter Cronkite’s memorial service. I wonder if anyone at CNN was listening as the President related one telling anecdote about veteran newsman.

Security Scare or Media Scare? Should the Coast Guard “exercise” with more restraint, lest it overexcite the trigger-happy news media, or should the media wait until they know what’s happening before inciting panic with unconfirmed reports? Call me crazy, but I think CNN blew it, big time.
I think that reporters are well within their rights to argue aggressively for the access and assistance they need to adequately cover a story… but I also believe that military officers who serve as Public Affairs Officers deserve to be treated respectfully.
