MEDEVAC Links

27 February 2012

The MEDEVAC issue continues to grow.  There have been many articles and it’s becoming difficult to keep up.  The Joint Chiefs of Staff is preparing something for Congress.  My guess based on conversations is that JCS will try deflection and will not solve the issue.  SecDef has done nothing, to my knowledge.  And so this is set to become an election issue.

This list below is not comprehensive but can be a helpful resource.

Please listen to my interview with Dennis Miller.

MEDEVAC Photo Essay by Nicole Sobreki
Photographs by Nicole Sobecki of an Army medevac unit in Afghanistan.  Photo 3 shows the interior of a UH60A medevac helicopter.  The gunners would sit in the two seats behind the sitting Marine that face outward toward the windows just behind the pilots.  This configuration belies the Army’s argument that he UH60 would suffer degraded performance and cause the removal of two litters from the helo were two .50 caliber machine guns to be mounted on the fuselage.

So many articles!

Hey, has anything appeared on “Michael Yon” or a similar website discussing how you could say that the war in Afghanistan was going swimmingly in late September and by mid-January it was lost and we had to speed our exit?

I’m looking for that explanation and I can’t find it. If we start arming our Medevacs can we ask our bloggers to arm themselves with intellectual consistency or the tools of reason, too?

And, yeah, instead of jobs and the economy I’m sure MEDEVAC will become an “election issue.”

Are you serious?

Carl — I’ve never said the war was going swimmingly. In fact, since 2006 I’ve been at times a nearly lone voice saying it was being lost. There has definitely been progress in limited areas. No question about that, and in 2011 I could see it more obvious than ever, but in selected areas/fronts/aspects. However, in a more general sense, when you factor in the larger pictures and the trajectory created by policy, etc., clearly this will end badly. It would take very, very selected editing of my work – and a large dash of dishonesty — to say that I purported success unfolding. (It would take Michael Moore or milkook-style laziness/dishonesty in research/writing to fashion such quilts fiction from patches of reality.)

Your writings, on these very pages, speak for themselves. And this is beyond dispute.
