Serious Coin, Serious Cause

Serious Coin, Serious Cause

Earlier this month I read an article in the Washington Post about how military coins are becoming a hot commodity, and it gave me an idea, which seems like an even better idea in the wake of the tragedy at Ft. Hood.

CNN Coin 2

I have in my collection a stash of my personal coins left from my days as Senior Pentagon Correspondent for CNN (I was the only Pentagon correspondent to have his own coin), and I thought what if I auctioned one off, for charity?

The charity I have in mind is T.A.P.S. — Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, which provides support and counseling for family members of fallen servicemen and women, 24/7.

The actual cost of the rare CNN collectible coin is $10.  That’s what it cost me.  So let’s start the bidding at $15.

Just add your bid in the comments section below, and I’ll leave the action open for a week.   The “winner” will get mint condition coin, and a handwritten statement of authenticity from me, once they send a check directly to T.A.P.S.

The coin comes in classic “Red and Gold”  or the elegant “Silver and Gold”, your choice.   This is a limited one-time offer*, to add a rare, collectible limited-edition collectible coin to your collection, and help a really good cause during a time of need.

CNN Coin 3

No pressure, but I told the T.A.P.S. folks this would likely end their funding problems in the short term

Thanks!

*Unless it’s REALLY successful, in which case we might do it again.

No personal or political gain? Only in politics…

$0 versus over a $1, no PERSONAL gain there.…

Unless you’re a child of a vet , spouse of a vet, or a vet…

Then it’s okay to you know, ostracize them, or make sure they’re poor…right?

Heard Gov. Rell was resigning, it’s sad.

Great cause! I’m a Disabled Veteran Outreach Rep and a Service Connected Disabled Veteran so auction is too rich for my blood but still appreciate you doing this and those that are able to bid so high for such a great charity that doesn not normally get any outside assistance since it can’t put a bunch of donations into marketing for more donations. Maybe do one on ebay too :-)
Thanks to all Veterans, Active, Reserve service memebrs for your service! And thank you to the families that sacrifice to allow them to serve. You are loved and appreciated!

What puts this even close to a military coin?

Hmmmm…well, it *does* have the word “Pentagon” on it…

This is a great ideal, even if you were just raising money for a PUBLIC EXECUTION for the TRADER BASTARD that killed our people in Ft. Hood. It’s not really a Military Challenge Coin but it would be something to keep in a sadden time in America’s History. I served America for twenty-one years as an Army Ranger with seventeen months in Combat in Vietnam and I’ll tell you that Bastard wouldn’t have made it to a jail cell if I were on prison detail. I would have put a round in his SKULL just for shits and grins. He is nothing but a coward just like the one’s from 9–11.

Too high for me to bid, but what a great thing for you to do. I think this is awesome and will help a great organization. Sorry there are those who doubt. I have a few coins in my collection that were given to me for supporting our troops and for being a good role model as a military “Navy” mom. Thanks for doing this and I hope it gets higher. Good Luck

It might be more appropriately described as ‘A Challenge Coin’ Vs military coin. More commonly associated with those in the military the challenge coin is a tradition. This auction however is beyond by realm of consideration, but the beneficiary is certainly worthy of what I would’ve liked to bid and obtain such a wonderful coin.

i bid 2100 providing also get an autograph
