Is it cold in here? Or is it Fox?

The Pentagon briefing room is often a cold place.   The temperature is kept low, so the government briefers don’t sweat while they are being pummeled by reporter’s questions.  But last week it seemed particularly frosty in the room, as Fox Pentagon producer Justin Fishel got an obvious cold shoulder from Pentagon Spokesman Geoff Morrell.

Fishel had posted a story the day before that seemed to put the Pentagon at odds with the White House over how soon prisoners at Guantánamo would be getting the H1N1 flu shots.

Pentagon: Gitmo Detainees to Receive H1N1 Vaccine, Despite White House ClaimFox News, Nov. 3, 2009

By one account the Pentagon spokesman named in the Fox story, Bryan Whitman, was particularly upset, and chewed out Fishel in the Fox booth within earshot of other reporters in the correspondent’s corridor.

The next day, November 4th, Fishel was clearly feeling the chill from Morrell, who when Fishel attempted to ask a question, curtly rebuked him for interrupting, “Excuse — Justin, I’m addressing this question. You raised your hand.  I’m happy to call on you in some point in this engagement,” Morrell remonstrated Fishel.

As Fishel patiently held up his hand up, Morrell ignored him, only acknowledged Fishel at the very end of the briefing, after another producer from a competing network, Luis Martinez of ABC, was called on and “deferred” his question to Fishel.

Fishel said, “Thank you.  I’ve had my hand up the whole time,” to which Morrell replied,  “I didn’t see you.  I’m sorry. ”

“I don’t believe that for a second,” Fishel retorted before asking and getting an answer to his question.   (You can see and hear the exchange by clicking on the picture)

In the Obama Administration’s war on Fox, this was a minor skirmish, but if thin-skinned spokespeople are going to take it personally every time some news organization, (and yes, Fox IS a news organization) does a story they don’t like, well, let’s just say it’s going to be a cold winter.

these people at fox seem to only being interested in conflict, kinda like” bully on the play ground”. since these people think they are so high and mighty and without rebuke in their holy then thou attitude. lets look back at glen becks anticks, bill O” rilley aruging with another reporter. do they really think people watch them for news no most of them well most just need a good laugh. at the three ring circus they provide for us.

Most of us like to come here and laugh at you and your spelling clown!

aleast fox news gives both sides ‚left and right fore and against.you are a clown.dont be ignorant watch fox and be informed.you dont have to agree just open your mind to both sides

The DoD spokesman was probaby told by his handlers to give the Fox reporter the cold shoulder. It’s a sad day when the white house is more interested in trying to silence critics than making up their minds on our course in Afghanistan.

Glenn Beck and Bill O’Reilly are opinion shows. Every network has them. And to be honest they do present both sides of the argument and they do criticize both dems and republicans. And yes it is obvious that there is a republican stance on the Fox network but they still argue both sides of the story and are the most fair (not always) of any of the news network. Every other network is extremely slanted for the left and report more “fluff” (Michelle Obama’s new dress) than actual news. But everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Amen, Charles!

wake up David. Fox is the top News organization on the planet. The numbers don’t lie. They present both sides, something that none of the other major media outlets do. Go back to drinking your koolaid.

FAUX NOISE: WE DISTORT, YOU PASS THE LIES.……

Seems like the comment police is just as biased and narrow minded as Faux Noise. So much for “fair and balanced”

I watch almost every news network, I like to see all sides of a story. Yes, Fox is right leaning, but respects both sides of an arguement on their news shows. Beck, Hannity, and O’Rielly are opinion shows, you’d think the admin would know the difference. MSNBC and CNN don’t even bother to act fair, they’d kiss Obamas ass on TV and still say they’re unbiased. Look at Keith Olberman, or Matthews, can anyone in their right mind say they’re nuetral? The admin is acting like pouting children, trying to punish anyone that doesn’t get a tingle up their leg from Obama. If they shut Fox out, who’s next?

i watched fox and cnn back and forth all day and you know what? they both have a slant but fox has more of a middle of the road line up than cnn. cnn has independents but no real conservatives. fox has both and liberals on their shows. and yes they get into heated discussions on the opinion shows. the news is not opinion some of you libs need to get educated on the difference. come to think of it you need to get educated on a lot of things…not indoctrinated.

fox creates news then reports it.
and the white house shouldn’t beat around the bush anymore..
here is a funny take on how it works.

Fox news only reports and reacts to whatever it’s Racist owner tell them to report.

Mr. McIntyre, please take the time to edit your articles. It’s hard to read and makes you seem unintelligent. I’m just saying…

I would expect military people to be more interested in facts and little else. The fact is the majority of content on all major U.S. news networks is conjecture from paid commentators. There is little to no investigative reporting with the networks acting as town criers for government and corporate press offices. My assessment is that they are all bad and Fox News is the worst.

My family hasn’t fought, died, and helped build this country so that angry reactionaries could subvert what is the best political process in the world. Fox routinely insinuates falsehoods knowing that malcontents will fill in the blanks and spread the lie. It isn’t that I politically support Obama or appreciate the Leftist agenda. It’s just that I feel ashamed at the ignorance and growing hate people on the Right are subscribing to.

Conservatism used to be a proud tradition. It is now a gaggle of idiots who are scared to death they will lose their beer, pickups, and football. They claim to represent “real America” and not 5% of these people have a clue about the traditions and forces that forged this great nation. Read a book! Stop electing family legacies! Demand true representation! Learn how the system works! Make it work for you!!!

Get all sides of the story. Haha. If you want all sides of the story you have to also watch Al Jazzira, Russia Today,
IRNA (Iranian), DeutscheWele, and on and on. If you only watch US channels you ware only getting different shades of the same story. I learned my lesson by ignoring Russian propoganda during the cold war. It was not all lies.

Does anything useful come from spokespeople, anyway? Press briefings are just a chance for the gubment to get the sound bite out there and reporters to act like they are challenging said gubment. Don’t take my word for it, watch a few.

The fact that this White House versus Fox story ever came about shows just how cozy the media is with the people they are supposedly keeping an eye on. Personally, I don’t want ANY news organization to be on friendly terms with the government, ever! I want nothing but suspicion, pessimism and disbelief.

What is happening to the right of free speech
under our Constitution. Fox News appears to be
the only place where free speech is practiced and we get the entire story of what is going on.
The President swore that he would uphold the
Constitution and many of his moves do not show
his support.

Morrell’s way out of line. Were he to be wearing a uniform and passed that canard in a public and televised forum about not seeing Fishel, he might reasonably be brought up on charges under Article 15 as “behavior unbecoming.” I see from Googling him that he is a graduate of the Columbia School of Journalism, which would at least partially explain his obvious antipathy towards a Fox representative.

His dismissive treatment of a member of he press flies completely in the face of everything we service members fight for, particularly the First Amendment.

Ah… so you get your political perspective from Jon Stewart. You do know that’s a comedy show right?

I listen to NPR. If I want drivel, I’d go to FOX or MSNBC.

Bingo!!!! Silencing crtics is a tactic of third world despotic mentalities. We are Americans and do not fear our critics. Open and fearless debate sets us apart from most of the rest of the world. This admin is setting themselves up for far more suspicion and distrust from the people. Let’s not forget the grillings ALL previous admins have taken from their critics, and rightly so.
God Bless America

“Beck, Hannity, and O’Rielly are opinion shows, you’d think the admin would know the difference.“
“Look at Keith Olberman, or Matthews, can anyone in their right mind say they’re nuetral?”

Keith Olberman and Chris Matthews are opinion shows, Keith. One would think that you would know the difference since you “watch almost every news network…” or is that just a lie?

Ya David, stop acting like Faux Snooze is entertainment, they are serious. Look at Loofah Boy for example…

I think Keith’s point was that the WH chose to criticize Fox citing their conservative leaning programs as indicative of the news organization as a whole (thereby relegating them to a “wing/extension of the Republican party”) while ignoring the fact that the same assessment would just as easily hold true for msnbc in the converse (they’d be an extension of the Democratic party). This is transparently hypocritical as logic would dictate that Dunn’s/WH lack of criticism of any other news organization is largely due to the fact that they receive overwhelmingly favorable coverage.

Ha! Fox “News” is a news organization? That’s a good one.

CNN and Fox are the worst in the news business

You really chose that name for yourself did you???

Say no more.
