If we are going to stay in Afghanistan then send enough troops to do the job, and let the Generals win it. I am beginning to believe that the current government does not want to win but to prolong the war. As I understand it we have had several opportunities to take out Bin Laden, but refused to do so. Pull out and let the people there handle things, they will, be the better for it. Not recommending any book to read, just common sense.

instead of being helpful about books, I will add two other Pentagon sayings that do hold water.

“Motion is the illusion of progress”

“If you look like you know what you are doing, people will believe you”

Only wish I could have said these first.

however, if I was going to recommend a book it would be “A Country such as This”, by the then Republican author Jim Webb. He nails the destructive attitude of the 60’s and 70’s administrations and the way they treat those who serve in uniform. And while they are written as fiction, well…

Read “A Bright Shining Lie” as soon as possible. It is standing on the shelf right above my head as I type this. It is one of three best books I’ve ever read.

If you read two books it may open your eyes to what our leaders have failed to learn. It appears that George Bush got us into something that he did not know “diddlie squat” about. Read “We Were Soldiers Once…and Young” Lt. Gen. Harold Moore (USARET.) and Joseph L Galloway.
