By way of introduction, let me say that I’m a straight, married-with-children, white anglo-saxon Protestent, retired Marine Master Sergeant with three combat tours. Does DADT work? Yes. So did the all-white, all-male military. Does either respect the basic human rights guaranteed by the Constitution and embraced by all major religions? No.
The fruit salad I earned on active duty — and the Civilian Meritorious Service medal I earned after retiring — attest to my love and dedication to my country, fellow servicemen and women, and all Americans. Had my family and I endured a tenth of the disrespect, humiliation and negligence that current policy and DADT forces on gays, I guarantee you I would not have been nearly as effective. All members of the military have an obligation to do what is in the best interest of their country and the military. Supporting an end to DADT would be a good start.
Nowhere have I seen anything indicating that gays are asking for special treatment — they’re simply asking for the same treatment that straights get as a matter of course. It’s the straight homophobes who are asking for special dispensation to discriminate against a select minority.

Gays in the military: it’ll work. The military can make anything work, if directed to do so. Can the military accomodate Gays? Sure they can. But only at the cost of further eroding the effectiveness of our military.
The military exists solely to fight and win our wars and protect our country. It is not supposed to reflect society’s mores, whims, and idiosyncrasies. It absolutely must uphold standards conducive to fighting and winning in battle… or, tacitly accept defeat by a superior foe.
None of our past, current, nor future enemies worry about gender and sexual equality in their military units. Their primary goal is defeating the USA military in future battle. Admitting Gays openly into the US military is simply one more step toward helping them achieve their goal.
Someday, Americans may wake up in the morning to discover that their military is incapable of providing a capable deterence to foreign aggression.

You have to love the "I'm not going to shower as a guy gets a hard on looking at my butt..." You likely already have idiot. Having 20 years in the service and one tour in Iraq (which was enough for me)...I never once popped wood in the shower. i was a company commander prior to reverting to enlisted due to civilian educational requirements, and well respected. When I finally got out my troops had a send off drunk night and I made a point of "confirming" for most I respected that I was gay. Without skipping a beat about 95% said, "yeah, we knew or suspected..." It didn't matter they knew, and I did my job and they respected me as a commander. there was a married soldier (married about a week before deployment) that offered via a friend while we were deployed that he'd gladly "hook up" with me anytime while in Iraq so we could both get some "relief." I never did...but hey he was married and "straight." I'd have been the one getting booted because I'm gay...I kept it in my pants, but he was ready to do the dirty at the drop of a hat. We had another "straight" married officer with us in Iraq, who was hooking up with a female specialist, and he wore panties the whole time we were there, and had her use toys on him. So tell me who's the problem??? I've known many gay/lesbian/bi soldiers, and airmen during my career. I can't think of one that "shoving" it in anyone's face. But I can recall virtually ever mechanic talking about what "chick" they banged....even while in theater. They had their own "DMP" Designated Masturbation Point for christ sake..... To those that say "don't shove it in my face I don't shove it in yours." Yes, as soon as you start talking about getting into some girl's pants, or wow look at the t*ts on that one..that's shoving it in my face....

All the people who you describe as "flamboyant" - how do you know they're gay? All the people who don't act "flamboyant" - how do you know they're heterosexual? When heteros stop shoving their lifestyle down my throat and stop acting like rednecks and Klan members, call me to task. With all the globally reaching problems we have to deal with in our country I’ve always remained optimistic that the American people as a whole were reasonable and logical.…until I saw your post.

I normally have a lot to say, but I am so disturbed and worried for my country over your ignorant and hateful words, that I am at a loss.

To claim that you are a Christian with all your hate and prejudice is the literal equivalent to spitting in Jesus’s face. How does it feel to spit in Jesus’s face?
