CBS’s Cami McCormick wounded in Afghanistan

A Defense official confirms to Line of Departure that CBS reporter Cami McCormick received serious, but not life-threatening injuries from a IED attack in Afghanistan that took the life of a U.S. servicemember.

I am told she received a concussion, broken bones, and injuries to her “lower extremities.” but is expected to survive.

So? She’s a Pentagoon flack.

Sorry you are less than human. Cami is a person, she deserves our sympathy and good wishes for a speedy recovery. I am a strong left leaning independent and wish harm on no one. Grow up.

Oh well our soldiers face that everyday…maybe now she’ll report the real news and maybe our military can fight the fight to win…in otherwords no rules of engagement that has our hands tied behind our back . It’s not a playground it’s a war zone!!!!

Being an embedded reporter has to be one of the most dangerous jobs anyone could have. No matter that she works for a leftist news network, no one ever wants to see anyone hurt or killed.

maybe the Pentagon will grade her as a “neutral” story

The article says CBS so she certainly has nothing to do with the Pentagon other than providing her bias in concocting the usual disinformation about our military’s earnest efforts to succeed. Hard to believe that a correspondent other than a DoD/Service/FOX News one is actually in the field and not reporting from a hotel room like in Iraq. CBS said it so it just has to be true, and the White House Chief of Staff OK-ed it’s release.
God Bless the soldier, his fellow troops and their families.

I love it when the media tries to gin up interest in their reporting by becoming part of the story — what’s next? her own “profile in courage” showing how she overcame her injuries? — how she overcame adversity?

The real story should be about the service man who lost his life, not some reporter.

I’m wondering if some of the cynics who see reporters as some form of lowlife, have ever met Cami McCormick, or seen her reporting? If there is one group of reporters who generally get it, it the ones who are out living and dying with the troops on the front lines. During this time when tabloid journalism is one the rise, these are real reporters, taking real risks, to do real reporting. And generally speaking, the troops appreciate it. Can we elevate the debate, folks?

Let’s see here, we now know the reporter’s name, but the identity of that courageous dead G.I. is hidden; just a cipher. Those who say that they do not want to see anyone get hurt or die have not listened to Obama lately. At 75, he wants me to die.

We should make all of the congressmen and senators in Washington embedded reporters.

Sorry Jamie, reporters ARE lowlifes, especially the ones from CBS, NBC, ABC, the NYT etc. Liars and propaganda pushers. Too bad she wasn’t killed, and the soldier was only injured. His life is 10 times more valuable than hers, for sure.

Any time we have journalists trying to get awards for their own celebrity, I say get a life.

War is not to dumb down our military folks but give them the kind of help & assistance they need daily.

A lot of the NEWS folks are only for their own egos.
John M. — San Diego, CA

Great that she is alive and will survive; great that she has been reporting from the front and not in a lofty New York newsroom as most of the big mouths. I have not seen any of her reporting so I do not know if she is biased but at least she was embedded.

Okay… I’m used to strong anti-media sentiment, but I have to say, to wish someone dead is about as callous as one can get. You have a problem with her reporting? We could have a real debate about that.

As for why we don’t have the servcemember’s name, the Pentagon keeps that private until 24 hours after notification of next of kin.

Why would someone say this? How could you possibly say this? What political views could one possibly hold to say this? Disgraceful and cowardly, hiding on the internet.

that’s hard to believe. any fact or incident behind your “slur.” She’s most likely not a flack for the
Pentagon but you clearly are a flake. go back in your hole.

Unsat, LA Doc. You dishonor all vets with that sort of BS. I join Jamie in the request to elevate the debate.

Funny CBS stopped reporting about injuries when Obama took office. The safest person in the group is the embedded reporter. It is funny how they always infer that the reporter is at such a great risk and that they are enduring great hardship, when in reality, compared to the servicemen and woman, they have it made.

so much hate from so many FOX NEWS Zombies—–bless her —hope she recovers soon.…..

Unfortunately, reporters are held in such low esteem. They have approval ratings almost lower than politicans. But why would people not care if a reporter is harm? This is because most reporters spend their time attacking people and issues that they dont support. Sometimes they even lie about it. This is the reason that people do not care if this reporter, ms. cami mccormick is hurt.

so what..! CBS, MSNBC, CNN, ABC.…THEY DON’T CARE.…there is NO war this is just something going on in the middle east and they aren’t going to really talk about it…because their King OBAMA is in office.…shame on the media…so why should I care about what happens to them.…they don’t report on our soldiers..they want to protect those detainees rights and prosecute our CIA .…so f the media could care less what happens to them.

I am horrified at the level of venom towards this woman. Her job as a war correspondent has NOTHING to do with the politics of either the left of the right. It is clear in these days and times “political correctness” and COMPLETELY BIAS reporting and mis-information has reached a level never seen before, but THESE reporters, the true war correspondents, including Ms. McCormick do a dangerous and necessary job by choice, and not for politics. What the Networks DO with the information is not their concern. If you want to attack CBS (and they DO show extreme bias IMO), do so at the Corporate Level and not in wishing Ms. McCormick or anyone else die from her work. That is simply a sub-human reaction. I wish her a speedy recovery and my prayers are with her, the fallen soldier and their families, and ALL the people involved in this — another terrible war. Despite the cries of “can’t we all get along” the unfortunate fact of the human persona is that people want to control and hurt others and will kill them to do it. You can talk to the Taliban about that. If not for them and their pals, we would not have been there in the first place.

Let’s just stick to the facts — she is a correspondent in Afghanistan working for CBS who was injured — no more no less. She was there because she chose to be. Our troops chose to be there because they chose to serve our country; draw your own conclusions.

It’s time for good manners

Valerie, you wouldn’t even know there was a war going on if it weren’t for reporters risking their necks to tell you about it.
And no, war is not just about American soldiers. It’s about civilians dying, about men, women and children injured, killed, left homeless, psychologically and physically harmed by man’s inhumanity to man. There’s quite enough out there about American soldiers at war and not enough about the war.

Too bad, what a waste of lives. Unfortunate for the youg report since CBS has stopped reporting the war news since Bush left office.

Sorry for the typo, meant to say (young reporter)

This young lady was out there in harm’s way folks.….she is an American just like the soliders she was with when it happened. That shows a committment far beyond most of the media has towards seeking the truth. If you are close enough to the action to be seriously wounded or killed as this reporter and the soldier then you are smack dab in the middle of the war. I hated Ted Kennedy but even so I take no joy in seeing him die of Brain Cancer. Why should we think any less of this young woman. Being a Disabled Veteran, I would suggest until you have walked the walk.…..just can the talk!

As Long as some liberal polititician does not try & say “She deserves a Purple Heart’!!—lets give Her One!!! She could be the “First Female Reporter To Get One’!!!—-That!! better not happen!!!! Gary J Galligan, Retired NYPD, Brigantine, NJ

My hart goes out to the folks of the serviceman and I wish her a speedy recovery, Loosing even one American to these vile critters is to much, pull the boys out and send the mark 77’s in

I’m shocked at the level of negativity coming from the US. What happened to humanity? I can assure you, Cami didn’t get herself injured for a Purple Heart.… And I’m shocked that you would even suggest that. Seriously, it’s all very well having an open forum but shouldn’t you think for at least a minute before submitting this rubbish? We’re talking about a human being here.

I don’t know why she was there, the state run media has stopped reporting on these wars since Bush left office.

Warishell, I would know there is a war because my friends and neighbors here in South Tampa right next door to Mac Dill AFB live daily with the real lives being lost and the real men and women trying to protect our soldiers. The media ignored our 4 soldiers who died this week…but did a whole story on how Obama’s golf game is going. I have lost all respect for the media and feel they report NOTHING but their own spin to protect their Obama.
btw…reporters “risking their necks” LOLOLOL and the civiians???? how about the soldiers????? typicial socialist mentality…I bet you can’t wait to see the CIA hung for blowing smoke in detainees faces.…ohhh how awful…

Being a SOLDIER is one of the most dangerous jobs anyone could have. Every day, not just embedded for 1 or 2. God Bless all of you for defending all of us civies.

When G.W. Bush was in office one or more of the liberal cable network hosts would actually give the names of American servicemen and women who lost their lives — on a daily basis. I don’t hear that since Obama became President. Double standard? Oh my God no way!!!

Don you consider Rush Limbaugh a human being?

Is it possible that the G.I.‘s next of kin have not been notified?

Feeling sad for you Sabelle.…you need to stop name calling and tune into real news.…not created news full of hate and name calling you get from CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS.…. but it is evident you are so stuck in their mind games you are a name caller too…why don’t you ask your news network why they won’t investigate the admitted socialist Van Jones who is an advisor to Obama ? I will give a list of the other socialist he has appointed as CZARS but we will start with one.

I am speculating here but since I have never seen one of the wounded reporter reports maybe there is a chance they were fair and balanced? If they were slanted toward the liberal left she would of been on the news every night. Regardless of your feelings toward the biased media a$$hats at CBS; going into a warzone with no intention to fight yourself does take some guts (or lack of good judgement).

Hopefully she will recover fully but to get a better story have her treated in Great Britain or Canada and then she can report on how it went for her.

No new comments in 19 minutes? I guess time has expired for comments.

I hope this will put the fighting back on the front page. My concern is the Afghanistan will make Iraq look
like a food fight.
Even though we have increased troop strength we must also consider the complexity of the fight and
also re-thinking why continue to fight there.

Since January we have not heard the “name”.….Osama Bin Laden. When Bush was president his
critics were quick to say we need to get him. But, not since

Lastly, the Taliban was only our opponent when they refused to aid us. But, once they lost power,
there was no longer a need to fight, so why are we battling them now?

Something to consider as we see the body count go higher each day.

Enjoy many of the comment…

yeah, cos you’ve risked your life to tell people what’s going on…

For your information, the Department of Defense is the only agency that releases names of soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines killed in action. In this case, CBS knew that their reporter was injured and released that info. CBS could not have released the names of soldiers killed or wounded without the approval of the Pentagon.

Let’s ratchet down the rhetoric people.

I’m sorry this young lady got hurt over there.

Having said that, I want to see what kind of effect this will have on her reporting. Since she works for CBS (Communist Broadcasting System), I am going to go out on a limb and say that she was probably slanted to the “anti-war Liberal” view.

Now, if she up and figures out that our guys are the White Knights, trying to help the ‘stani people, and those flippin’ Taliban and al-Queerda types are the A-1 @$$hole enemies, I’ll say that she’s gained from an otherwise bad experience and bully for her.

If she decides that no one should just fight a war, ever, because it’s too horrible and our troops should come home right now and that bad ol’ Bush was a traitor…

Well, then I’ll say, “Honey, go walk point.”

And by the way, if I am wrong on my assumption that her personal slant is Lib, and she’s actually a fair reporter…

well then, I’ll still feel the same way about what happens after.

Our troops are F**KING HEROES. Let there be no doubt whatsoever where I stand. I proudly say that I served amongst heroes, once upon a time.

I can’t argue with the broad idea here but at this stage, it’s just a report that she’s injured — and I’m sure she didn’t do that to herself for the coverage. chill.

Where was kati Couric.…..should have been her instead

Thank you Ralph Chappell!
Thank you for your service and sacrifice. You are a true American.
As you can see, the venom displayed on this website by the majority of the commenters is very sad. I believe it is based on immaturity and indifference to others. I would hope that the commenters would be decent, to express their opinions in an honest debate, but have chosen to use this forum as the equivalence to a public toilet wall.

I’m not in the habit of submitting to internet comment sites like this, and tonight has reminded me why.
If we lose our humanity, we lose everything.

It would be nice if people could think before they speak / write.

I’ve been there, I know what I’m talking about. And I’m horrified at the ease with which the majority of you wish ill on another.

I agree that the civilians are the real victims. Absolutely.
Reporters choose to go and know the risks BUT they’re not part of the conflict.
My sympathy for the military is limited by the fact that they go in the knowledge they’re risking their lives. This doesn’t make their lives any less valuable, but they chose that when they chose the job.

And yeah, the news is dumbing down at a shocking rate. But please don’t blame (all) individual reporters for that. It’s a business decision.

ps do you know what socialism is?? cos I missed that bit in my studies about socialism and soldiers… do enlighten me…

So, she is on a 4-hour patrol — protected by a platoon of combat troops, then it’s off to a luxury hotel to file her report. Tough tour!

This is the most horrifying collection of comments from people I am ashamed to say I am a fellow American of. To “Buckwheat”– she was embedded on a weeks-long assignment, living side-by-side with the soldiers. The rest of you so-called “patriots”– you sully the very idea and you have quite literally sickened me with the horrifying vitriol I see here. Jamie McIntyre, you do a great job, but this particularly vile assortment of comments is indefensible.

Also, you “patriots”– I’ve never been to Afghanistan, but I’ve been to Iraq. Don’t question my patriotism until you question your own.

Blaine quite a posting but where is the concern for the Soldier? So far as an American I’ve only seen utter contempt by the Media regarding both wars as they sought to interject themselves for their “Walter Cronkite” moment. Nothing they have done in the last 12 years has been with any honor much less dignity. Don’t you think it is quite odd that there is no mention of the Soldiers name? Heck traffic victims are awarded that much. I honestly wonder if the Soldier who died did so because he tried to protect this woman’s life. Reporters have a way of putting themselves in positions that increase the danger to everyone they are with. Why now they are trying to shift the blame again on the Republicans for the once again attempt at the failures of this President. There is no question this man who has invaded the “People’s ” house hasn’t a clue how to do anything but talk and he isn’t even able to do that without someone else putting words on a screen for him to read. To somehow elevate this woman to a status higher than the very men and women who swore and oath to serve and protect this country is unreal. She went there most likely told to go there by her editors or owners of the news corp she works for and most likely told to find “dirt we can use” kind of reporting that they did against the former President. There isn’t anything the modern media does that isn’t political. Or can’t you see that or are you so blind and deft not to know the blatant political nature of all reporting by CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, PBS and the NYT WTP crowd. The have done nothing to be completely unbiased in their reporting. Even in this Healthcare debate they have taken the side of the DEMOCRATS and OBAMA and against the people who are standing up and resisting having a horrible healthcare bill rammed down their throat. But the out and out slanted reporting is not resonating with the people and when they start doing their jobs as journalistic integrity perhaps you will see a difference in tone. Otherwise the masses will see them as they are, sharks, charlatans, and unworthy of respect.

Sorry, i would have to say that’s against the Geneva convension.…being cruel on the tellitubies

Jamie, it’s great you added your opinions to the debate, and while I do agree with you that it is bad to wish death on someone else, I do have to agree with other posters in criticizing the media.

Journalists ARE lowlifes. They aren’t important enough to society to make news, so they make up news. It’s interesting to see how Bob Woodruff, for example, was hailed as a hero, while the countless soldiers who endure IED attacks in Iraq not only are forgotten, but they are almost never reported about in the first place! Yet in the bigger course of history, it’s obvious to even the most dimwitted individual that that unacknowledged soldier contributed far greater to the world than any worthless journalist.

Why exactly are journalists heroic or brave? Because they made a poor career choice and then whine when they get hurt? Tough luck.

A firefighter is a hero because he or she risks his or her life to save others. A police officer is a hero because he or she risks his or her life to save others. A soldier is a hero because he or she risks his or her life to save others. A journalist is a loser, plain and simple.

Get well soon Cami!

Say whatever you want about how the ‘mainstream media’ has taken a ‘dive with the devil’ considering all of the tabloid-ish trash that clutters our papers and airwaves. But, if you want to criticize someone (Ms McCormick) who is putting her life on the line to bring all of us an inside look at what’s actually happening in this war while you sit back on your comfy couch or computer chair you’re a friggin’ coward. Go tell her to her face you friggin’ morons. If there were no combat journalists, we’d still be winning the war in Vietnam.

It is a shame to have Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines dies or wounded. I have seen this many times in Iraq and Afghanistan to come, but let us remember one thing, we are the ones who can change things. If you think this fight is wrong voice your objections when its time to vote. If you think this fight is a worthy cause again voice your opinion when its time to vote. I do think the media doesn’t tell the whole story but come one people to win this fight we need to do it together as one.

The story should have been about the soldier that was killed and she ‚a by line of the soldiers story.

As a service member I can tell you that no one is safer as long as they are there. IED’s will kill anyone close to them and they don’t dicriminate between reporters or soldiers. I’ve never seen this woman’s reports but I have a deep respect for anyone who puts him or herself in harm’s way, she was just doing her job just like the soldiers with her, shame on those who profile this woman just because shes a journalist.

Why Not?

cmon Valerie, when these networks were reporting on the war during the early years, many of the supporters of the war said the nets were focusing too much on it and only reporting negative stories…now they dont report it enough?? you cant have it both ways

I never saw anyone say Bob Woodruff was a “hero”

You are nothing but a lousy coward, “TheTruth”. I have a great place for you to move to where they don’t have “lowlife journalists”; it’s called North Korea. For the record, Cami McCormick has done countless– COUNTLESS– stories profiling the struggles of the “unacknowledged” soldiers and following the stories of wounded vets.
Also, I’ve actually gotten up and gone to Iraq. Have you? Or are you a loser, plain and simple?

You’re still a coward, however. And a traitor.

I am so mad at you. We choose the job because we love our country and our fellow man. What do you do?

Cami would agree with you.
